What raw revenue-growth screens get wrong, and how to filter quarterly sales
Ranking every stock by year-over-year quarterly revenue surfaces $15,000 denominators, upfront licensing spikes and post-merger consolidations before steady operating growth.

Ask a stock screener for the fastest quarterly revenue growth, and a company with almost no sales a year ago can outrank an established business. Our November 3, 2026 morning scan of active US common stocks found 2,181 companies with positive year-over-year quarterly growth. The top entry was up 257,493%.

The query returned revenue figures from accepted SEC Form 10-Q filings. The percentages need context: how much revenue the company started with, when it recognized a payment, and whether the two quarters cover the same businesses.
Small denominators produce huge percentages
Four of the top six rows started from less than $62,000 of year-ago revenue. Three of them:
| Symbol | Company | Q2 2026 revenue | Q2 2025 revenue | Reported YoY | Source filing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| JOBY | Joby Aviation | $38.64M | $15.0K | +257,493% | Q2 10-Q |
| FDMT | 4D Molecular Therapeutics | $3.78M | $15.0K | +25,107% | Q2 10-Q |
| QUBT | Quantum Computing Inc. | $5.55M | $61.0K | +9,000% | Q2 10-Q |
Those companies reported roughly 91 to 2,576 times their year-ago revenue. From a $15,000 base, an increase that would be small for an established company turns into a five- or six-digit percentage. Put a floor on year_ago.value, the revenue from the quarter read four periods back with back = "4". A floor on current sales alone still lets tiny denominators through.
Two of these jumps also include acquisitions. Joby bought Blade Urban Air Mobility on August 29, 2025, after the year-ago quarter, and Blade’s passenger flights supplied $36.17M of Joby’s $38.64M. Quantum Computing’s acquisition note restates both quarters as if it had owned LSI, NuCrypt and NHanced from January 1, 2025. On that basis, Q2 revenue fell from $15.76M to $9.08M. A small denominator says nothing about how much of the increase came from the existing business.
A comparative can change after the original filing
Planet Green Holdings (PLAG) needs a different explanation. Its Q2 2026 10-Q reports $790,203 of revenue against $3,130 for Q2 2025, a 25,146% increase. But its original Q2 2025 10-Q reported $906,996 for that quarter.
The later filing says it reclassified prior-year amounts to reflect discontinued operations. The $3,130 is the revised comparative for the business that remains, not the total revenue the company first reported for that quarter. Check which version of the year-ago quarter a growth calculation uses.
License payments can dominate a quarter
Three biotechnology companies ranked fifth, seventh and eighth in the raw scan. Their income statements explain the jumps:
- Vir Biotechnology (
VIR, Q2 10-Q) reported $238.95M of revenue against $1.21M a year earlier, up 19,583%. License and collaboration revenue supplied $238.94M; grants supplied $11K. In Q2 2025, those lines were -$0.50M and $183K, with another $1.53M of other revenue. The preceding quarter’s year-over-year change was -101.0%. - MeiraGTx Holdings (
MGTX, Q2 10-Q) reported $321.43M against $3.69M, up 8,609%. That included $204.64M in related-party license revenue and $104.91M in related-party service revenue. Third-party services supplied $11.89M. Revenue had fallen 84.8% year over year in the preceding quarter. - Nurix Therapeutics (
NRIX, Q3 10-Q) reported $673.06M against $7.89M, up 8,426%. License revenue was $653.16M and collaboration revenue was $19.91M. The preceding quarter’s year-over-year change was -79.5%.
The revenue accounting standard ASC 606 requires companies to recognize contract revenue as they fulfill their obligations. Depending on the agreement, a license fee or milestone payment can therefore dominate one quarter. Showing sales.yoy_before beside sales.yoy helps you spot these jumps before opening the revenue note.
Mergers change the comparison
Adding a $50M floor on year-ago revenue, keeping growth below 300%, and requiring it to exceed the preceding quarter’s growth narrowed the scan from 2,181 matches to 988:
from stocks on daily
let sales = facts(concept = "revenue", period = "quarterly")
let year_ago = facts(concept = "revenue", period = "quarterly", back = "4")
include type == "common"
where year_ago.value >= 50000000
and sales.yoy > 0
and sales.yoy < 3
and sales.yoy > sales.yoy_before
show sales.value as revenue,
year_ago.value as year_ago_rev,
100 * sales.yoy as rev_yoy,
100 * sales.yoy_before as prior_yoy
sort 100 * sales.yoy desc
take 10
The floor removed the tiny bases, but acquisitions still affected the results. When a company buys another business, its consolidated revenue generally includes the acquired business from closing onward. Its year-ago revenue may cover only the original business.
Checking SEC Form 8-K Item 2.01, “Completion of Acquisition or Disposition of Assets,” across every stock over 252 sessions is too wide for a single scan. Rank the revenue figures first, then check filings for these nine candidates:
from "RHLD", "FUBO", "SM", "WS", "BBIO", "SPCX", "PNFP", "INSW", "BW"
show filings(form = "8-k", item = "2.01", window = 252).count as deal_8ks,
filings(form = "8-k", item = "1.01", window = 252).count as agreement_8ks
Five of the nine had filed at least one Item 2.01 report in those 252 sessions. Read each one: the item covers asset sales as well as acquisitions, and some combinations change the comparative period too.
Worthington Steel (WS) reported $2.73B against $872.9M, up 212.4%, in its quarter ended August 31, 2026. It completed its takeover of roughly 60.9% of Klöckner & Co SE on June 3; the 8-K/A supplies further financial information. Pinnacle Financial Partners (PNFP) reported $1.31B against $544.0M, up 141.2%, after its Synovus merger took effect January 1. Its January 2 filing is a Form 8-K12B.
Resolute Holdings Management (RHLD) reported $473.2M against $119.6M, up 295.7%. It reported its Forge New Holdings / CompoSecure transaction on January 13. Its Q2 10-Q consolidates GPGI Holdings, CompoSecure and Husky Holdings.
SM Energy (SM) shows why a count of deal filings can mislead. Its two Item 2.01 reports cover the January 30 Civitas merger closing and an April 30 South Texas asset sale to Caturus Energy. The sale price was $950M, with $900M in net cash proceeds. The screen showed $2.50B against $793.0M, up 215.3%, but the Q2 10-Q labels that income-statement line “Total operating revenues and other income.” It includes a $262M gain on divestiture activity. Oil, gas and NGL production revenue alone was $2.16B against $785M.
SpaceX and FuboTV show two other ways the comparison can change:
- Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (
SPCX) reported $14.58B against $5.58B in its Q3 10-Q, up 161.4%. The August 14 Item 2.01 filing records its acquisition of Anysphere, Inc., known as Cursor. Note 20 of the 10-Q treats that deal as a business combination under ASC 805. Cursor contributed $608M from closing through quarter-end and nothing to reported Q3 2025 revenue. The note’s unaudited pro forma comparison assumes an earlier closing: $15.11B against $5.80B. The February 2026 xAI combination, following the earlier X combination, appears under “Common Control Mergers” in Note 1. It preceded SpaceX’s June 2026 IPO. The Q3 2025 comparative already includes $813M from Super Intelligence, alongside $1.67B from Space and $3.10B from Connectivity, the segment that includes Starlink. The xAI business is therefore already in the year-ago base. - FuboTV (
FUBO) showed $1.48B against $380.0M, up 290.0%, yet returned zero Item 2.01 filings in the 252-session window. Its Hulu + Live TV deal closed October 29, 2025. The 8-K filed October 30 was 254 trading sessions back, two beyond the cutoff. The Q3 FY2026 10-Q also uses a different comparative after a reverse acquisition and a fiscal year-end change to September 30. The screen’sback = "4"read standalone FuboTV’s quarter ended June 30, 2025: $380.0M, giving 290.0% growth. The filing compares revenue with accounting acquirer Hulu Live’s quarter ended June 28, 2025: $1.07B, giving 38.0% growth.
Derived revenue and missing facts
The run’s evidence and warnings explain other limits of the results:
- Banks may need a calculated revenue figure. In
PNFP’s Q3 10-Q, $986M of net interest income plus $326M of non-interest revenue totals $1,312M. The Q3 2025 amounts were $397M and $147M, totaling $544M. Monk.trade marked the resultbasis: "derived". Check whether revenue isreportedor calculated from industry-specific components before comparing sectors. - Both scans returned a
facts_absentwarning for 28 active stocks reporting in currencies other than US dollars. The warnings also covered issuers without the requested concept. These symbols did not match; the scan did not convert their sales to dollars. - A
facts_report_pendingwarning namedCNK,PEG,VNOandWMB. EDGAR had accepted their third-quarter 10-Qs on November 2 or that morning, but their facts had not been extracted, so the screen used earlier reports. A rerun later that day returned 2,184 positive-growth matches instead of 2,181. Check the report period and warnings during earnings season.
